Volunteer with us!
Comber seeks disability and health professionals each summer to take part in our overseas volunteer programme in Romania. We also need volunteers in Ireland in many areas including fundraising.
Volunteers in 2010 working with residents in Comber's homes.Comber was established as a volunteer organisation and we still rely heavily on our extensive volunteer network today, both in Ireland and in Romania. Since it was established in 1990, Comber has sent over 500 professional volunteers to work in Romania.

Overseas Volunteer Programme
We are now recruiting for our 2012 Summer Volunteer Programme!
2012 Programme
Comber is committed to providing unique volunteer placements, offering personal learning opportunities and giving our volunteers a wonderful experience of volunteering abroad. Comber’s services in Romania are expanding quickly and volunteers will play a vital role in working with local staff and families to support the growing demands for disability services.
In previous years we have recruited health & disability workers, including occupational therapists, physiotherapists, intellectual disability nurses, speech and language therapists, psychology graduates, social care workers and social workers. In 2011 we ran two 5 week programmes, and volunteers were asked to raise funds to cover the cost of the placement and make a donation towards Comber's work.
This year applications are being sought from professionals in the following areas:
Occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, social care work*, social work*, intellectual disability nursing* (*experience working with adults with intellectual disabilties essential)
Applications from new graduates welcomed!

What our past volunteers have to say
“I really enjoyed my experience in Romania and gained so much from the 5 weeks I spent working there. I think if anything the programme exceeded any expectations I had. A brilliant experience."- 2011 Comber Volunteer
The work with Comber made me feel vital and enthusiastic and it has reignited my love for my job and working for individuals with disabilities. It has made me thirsty for new challenges and has given me confidence to pursue avenues that I may not have faced before. It has shown me the complexities of working within other cultures, but how these differences make our world such a colourful and exciting place to live. And without a doubt this experience has given me a love for Romania and the Romanian people that will stay with me for as long as I live.” - 2010 Comber Volunteer
