George Hook, Patron of the Comber Foundation:

Having accompanied volunteers from Comber to Romania, I have witnessed the tireless work they do in trying to close down state run institutions in Giurgiu County. This requires help from you at perhaps the most difficult economic times. Please find a little time in your heart for young adults that perhaps unknowingly will owe you a debt of gratitude for the rest of their lives.”

The phones4change appeal

On behalf of the Comber Foundation, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the schools sincerely for their support of the phones4change appeal over the last 12 months.

The money raised by the campaign has helped the Comber Foundation to establish day services for young adults with disabilities in Giurgiu County, Romania.  These services have helped make a real and lasting difference to the lives of 38 young people from orphanages and institutions.  On their behalf, a sincere thank you.

Due to circumstances entirely outside of our control, regrettably we anticipate that the phones4change schools campaign will be closing at the end of June 2012.  The market for old mobile phones has changed considerably and the company that provided the recycling service for us is unable to continue to support the campaign.

To ensure that your school receives full benefit from any phones collected to date, we ask you to contact Bernie before 30th June 2012 to arrange collection of phones which you have accumulated and to order equipment.

Equally if your school has already banked phones, please call Bernie on +353 1 864 4828 before 30th June 2012 to order equipment, or alternatively to receive the monetary value of the phones which you have collected.

We thank you once again for your support of the phones4change appeal.  We rely on voluntary fundraising initiatives like this to fund our projects in Romania and would welcome any future opportunities to work with you and your school.

Best wishes,

Fiona Dowling

Executive Director of the Comber Foundation
