Helping dreams come true...
Everyone has ambitions and dreams for their lives. Many of the residents in our homes have not had the opportunity to pursue their goals or share their stories in the past.
We are working to help build a better future, where their dreams will be realised.

Jenel (39) was abandoned at birth and has lived in institutions all his life. As a result of severe neglect, Jenel spent his entire childhood in a cot and contracted, ‘cot legs’. He now walks with the aid of a frame. Comber volunteers first got to know Jenel while he lived in Gradinari orphanage in the 1990s. He was later transferred to the adult institution in Bolintin Vale when he turned 18.
Jenel moved to live in Casa Comber in February 2007 where he enjoys life and spends time with his friends
He enjoys helping with the housework, his job is to help with the dusting, and when he is relaxing he likes to listen to music. He attends the new day service and likes art and music therapy and weaving. Jenel would like to spend more time in the community out at the shops. He currently goes to the local shop independently for magazines and blank cds so that he can get new music on them and he is very proud of this. Jenel is very happy and wouldn't change his life.

Boca is 26 years old. Boca lived in an orphanage from the age of 2 years old and had lived in various institutions until she moved into the Comber apartments when they first opened two years ago, and loves living there.
She works part time as a cleaner with the local social services in Giurgiu during the week and has the weekends off. She is very proud of her job and also her apartment. She likes to spend time in the community, and enjoys going visiting her friends in Casa Comber and Casa Phare. She likes solving puzzles and playing football in her spare time.
Boca especially likes writing to her friends in Ireland whom she has met through the Tabara Camp which is run by the Donahies Community School in Dublin and loves when she gets letters from Ireland.
Gabi is 23 and the youngest resident in Casa Phare. Past Comber volunteers first met Gabi as a child in an orphanage in Giurgiu where he was placed at birth. Gabi moved to live in Casa Phare in 2007.
Gabi loves music and television and going to the park. He is looking forward to a holiday in the mountains which he is going on with all his friends from Casa Phare this September. Gabi is very good at advocacy. He dreams of travelling outside Romania and one day would like to visit Ireland to see his friends that he has made through Comber .
Calin is 32 years old and lives in the Comber apartments in Giurgiu, after spending 12 years in an institution when his extended family were no longer able to care for him.
The motto he lives his life by is- "Money doesn't bring happiness".
He enjoys making craftwork items in the new day service, where he is helped by his woodwork instructor Costel.
Cailin is very talented in computers and earlier this year he came top of his class in a computer course he undertook in Giurgiu.
Cornel is a 32 year old man, who has been in state care all his life until he moved to live in Casa Phare in 2007. He now shares a room with his friend, Gabi.
He likes to keep the house clean and also enjoys attending the new day service.
One day Cornel dreams of owning his own television and computer.
